Gaz-“ The Norwegian seas are not only famous for the variety and peculiarity of their fish, but they likewise produce creatues whose existence has been for ages deemed chimerical. The sea-snake, or serpent of the ocean, is no longer regarded as a poetical illusion. One of these creatures was shot in ITS6 by a master of a ship; its head resembled that of a horse, its month and eyes were large and b!ack and from its neck hung a White mane. It floated on the surface of the water, and lifted its head a con** siderabie way out of the sea ; between thr head and neck Were seven or eight folds, and its entire length was upwards of a hundred yards. These serpents are said to have a remarkable aversion to the smell castor ; for which reason mariners generally provide themselves with quantities of this drug, to prevent their being a-verset. In short, the peculiarities of this animal would exceed belief, ff jhe facts relating to them had not been attested in the most solemn manner.”Irish llumoui.—One of our fellow citfcen9, for the purpose of arresting attention, caused his sign to be set upside down. On Monday last, 'While the lain was pouring down with great violence, a Son of Hibernia was discovered, directly opposite, standing with great gravity upon bis head, and fixing Ins eyes steadfastly upon the sign. On an enquiry being made of this inverted gentleman, why he stood in so singular an attitude—he answered—-I am tiying to read that sign.-— Fed.
