By John Tompkins john.tompkins@thefacts.com ANGLETON — Exactly a month after George Smith was found dead on a beach near the Surfside Bridge, his wife was booked into the Brazoria County jail on a capital murder charge. Margaret Lorrain Smith, 48, was arrested at her daughter’s home in Boyd, northwest of Fort Worth, at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Wise County Sheriff David Walker said. “They arrested her with Surfside woman accused of hiring Cluteman, 24, to kill her spouse, out incident,” Walker said. Smith was indicted this week by a Brazoria County grand jury on the capital murder charge. She is accused of paying Dylan James Laughrey, 24, of Clute to kill her 53-year-old husband. The grand jury also indicted Laughrey, and Brazoria County sheriff's officials arrested him Thursday evening on a charge of capital murder. Officers waited Thursday evening outside Smith’s daughter’s home in the 300 block of CR 4890 in Boyd. Wise County justice of the peace Teri Johnson imposed a preset $500,000 bond when Smith was arrested, Walker said.
