By Julie HoffmanSun Post News ■ ■ ’ - '- r \ , . » • ..• ■ * i► * vRich Corder has spent much of his life in the water and saved seven people from drowning — all before his 16th birthday.At the end of August, Rich was awarded “Junior Lifeguard of the Year.” His brother Mike, 13, won “Most Inspirational Lieutenant” — a top rank among junior lifeguards depending on how fast they swim.Being in the spotlight isn’t new for the two. Their father is Sgti Richard Corder of San Clemehte’s Sheriffs Department.“Hey, you’re Richard’s kid,” is somethingthey commonly hear.Rich isn’t shy of boasting about his honor this summer. “I’m so proud of what I did,” he said with a glaring grin.He holds the pier marathon record for run-. ning to the end 6f the pier and swimming' back as many times as possible in 30 minutes. He completed the cycle seven times.Mike ran the course six times. “I would.^ have done more if not for the stingray,” he Said, recalling a painful sting as he emerged out of the water. ' fMike is a; lieutenant, meaning he swam about 800 yards in under 20 minutes.
