Marching in the procession willUJWF and the Jewish Community Council, was named “C-Day”chairman. He announced the lion’sshare of funds collected will goto Israel. This will be in responseto an urgent appeal telegraphed by Eddie Cantor, national campaign chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, to Nat G. Silverman, Community Council president, following Cantor’s recent return from Israel.Phoenix “C - Day” observance will be part of a national mobilization organized by UJA.To Canvass HomesMintz, who has been long identified with Jewish enterprises in the community, will head a large group of volunteers who will canvass homes in a drive to raise the greatest possible amount of immediate cash on current pledgesfor the UJWF.“The need for cash today is more urgent than it has ever been,” said Mintz. “ ‘C-Day’ willgive all of us in Phoenix an opportunity to see the job through with cash.UIn Israel almost 100,000 immigrants are now living in tents and barracks in reception camps. Moreover, Israel is confronted with a flood of ‘deadline’ immigrants in the coming months from countries that have set deadline dates after which Jews will not be permitted to leave.ffExpects ResultsMintz said he was “confident”that the people of Phoenix willrespond to “this urgent call forfunds.”“I know that our ‘C-Day’ willbe productive of results,” he declared.Silverman also stressed the importance of prompt payment of pledges.“Pledges will not build homes,” he emphasized. “Pledges will not buy food or provide clothing or medical care. Nothing but cash can do the job.
