It is generally understood that he nev-j ^ er, at any period of his life, passed any of his! . ^ counterfeit for genuine money, but was a man- J ufacturer and wholesale dealer in the article.He was at one period, though not a millionaire— quite wealthy ; but he has so often been compelled to'contend with the btate and the United States, (mos^y, however, with the former, for his transactons were, until recently, mainly confined to the paper currency,) that he has become reduced in circumstances. His farm, situated nine or ten miles from Akron, consists of about three bundled acres of the most fertile bottom land on the Cuyahoga river, and his mansion is said lo be one of the most splendid in that part of the State, being superb-ly furnished with costly sideboards,sofas, couches, divans, ottomans, mirrors, aird other ornamental articles of the same description.The'farm and mansion nominally belong'to his son Dan, w ho is now a fugitive from justice, being suspected of having been connected with a “bogus machine/’ or something ol that kind, in Michigan. His son James, who, isIIsaid to be an honest young man, and has never followed in the foootsteps of his father—mow “carries on” the farm.
