!Ray Ross is new O-W cagecoachBy PAUL THOMPSONNICEVILLE — Ray Ross, a veteran high school coach from Cincinnati, Ohio, is the new head basketball boach at Okaloosa Walton Junior College. Ross takes over for Lannv Heath, who will now devote full time to his duties as athletic director and physical education head.Ross graduated from Bay High School in Panama City before playing college basketball at Georgetown University in Georgetown, Ky. After his service tenure, Ross returned to Panama City as assistant basketball coach at Gulf Coast Junior College. Ross was back at Hay High again as an assistant before coaching the past three years at Norwood High School in Cincinnati.Ross earned his Master’s Degree at Xavier University.After the first week of don-ditioning drills with the Raiders, Ross reports that the squad has a lot of poten-tial but lacks size and experience. Ross brought five boys from Cincinnati with him to attend OWJC but two of them both 6 6, have left.The Raiders have only two players with any experience and only one from last sea son’s squad that posted a 15-12 record. Guard Tonv Gur ganus played briefly last season and Mike Liles is back at OWJC after some grade problems.“I’m very optimistic about this squad,” says Ross, “we have good quickness and the bovs have shown a lot of enthusiasn in the ** rly workouts.”The Raiders will open the season Nov. 10 against Yancey State Junior College before competing in the second annual tip-off tournament at Panama City.
