Postl’s was the Gulf Coast Club “that wasn’t there.Charles M. Postl of Chicago picked out a site on this peninsula Jutting out into Choctawhatchee Bay, named it Postl Point and set about putting a Gulf Coast Club and Health Resort “on the map.Postl, a former light heavy weight wrestling champion of the world, was at the time, the owner of Postl’s Health Club!, «rr»j|I. Plew for his resort.But this resort, off South Bay-shore Drive, consisting of several little huts with thatched roofs grouped together wlthina compound, was a far cry’ from the Health Resort Postl mapped out for Post Point's Gulf Coast Club.He advertised extensively showing an aerial view of his Gulf Coast Club and Resort and even set up offices, one in Valparaiso, the other at 312 S. Wa bash Ave., Chicago, through which reservations at the Gulf Coast Club may be secured,' the promotion stated.Everything in the way of re creation—from golf to polo, to tennis, horseback riding, sail ing, hunting, hiking, and surf bathing was offered by Postl’s Gulf Coast Club and Health Resort to businessmen who wanted to keep physically fit “Who enters here, leaves care behind. Who lingers—joy of health shall find. the circulars proclaimed.“Gentlemen! Your Health’ At last a real he-man Paradise has been created for you, the printed forms extolled. “Here is a haven, designed for you busy brain workers. You, who need occasionally to get away— clear away from the strain of business; you who need rest and recreation; you who need to build physical stamina; you who love the sports of the great outdoors, here is the Club for you.“A Gentlemen’s estate where you can rest, build health and energy under scientific direction. While you are my guest you will follow out a program in w’hich you will participate in exercises, recreation and di version that will give you strength and vigor as well as thorough enjoymennt. Health is your most priceless possession.“I have devoted 25 years to the science of keeping busy businessmen physically fit, Charles Postl stated in his circular. “Twenty-five years of successful practice and my own physical condition are your guarantee.“I built the Postl’s Gulf Coast Club for you. It has a twofold purpose—health building and pleasure giving. You are entitled to both of these. Come —health and pleasure await you!POSTL POINT PART OF VALPARAISO IN 30’S—This map of the cityof Valparaiso shows that Postl Point was a part of Valparaiso in 1933.
