Hornets Kick-Off Season At Thorndale Fri. NightThe Burleson County CtTIZEN, Thursday, September 7, 1967The Caldwell Hornets will kick-off their 1967 football season Friday night, September 8 at Thorndale. Kick- off time is set for 8:00 p.m.The Hornets coached by Morris Stone and Bryant Stone will be trying to make it two in a row over the strong Thorndale Bulldogs. Ijast year the Hornets snapped their 20-game losing streak by beating the Bulldogs 7 to 0. The game was played on a rain-drenched Hornet Field. The Hornets lone tally came after Hornet tackle Bobby Pi-wonka blocked an attempted Thorndale quiek-kick and recovered the ball on the Thorndale seven yard line. On the first play Dick Bovvers passed to Skelly Strong for the tally.The Bulldogs coached by Ed Gilliland and Darrell Davis are members of District 24A. Eight-year veteran quarterback Jacky Lee will draw the starting assignment on the strength of his fine showing last Satur day in the Oilers' 30-17 loss to the powerful Dallas Cowboys. Lee passed for both Oiler touchdowns after taking over for Don Trull in the final quarter.
