Lands have returned from a two week vacation spent at Daytona Beach.Bill Moon, Bill Brown, Tyrone Parker and Bud Jeffery went to Spartansburg, North Carolina over the Labor Day weekend to attend the Southeastern States National Championships.Guests at the Sylvan Shores Hotel last week were Mr. Don Williams, Columbus, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. D. Cool, Burton, New Jersey, who have been looking around for a home here; Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Truger Atlanta, Georgia; Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Seward, Hendersonville, North Carolina; and Mr. and Mrs. E. Hardy and sons, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Mr. and Mrs. James E. Smith of Smith’s Restaurant left Wednesday, August 31, for Asheville and Washington. They will reopen their restaurant SeptemberThe Sylvan Shores Hotel and Smith’s Restaurant are both being redecorated for 'the fall.Jane Carpenter, niece of Polly Parker, who has been visiting with Polly this summer, left last weekend to visit her sister, Mrs. Nancy Mathis in Winston Salem, North Carolina, before returning to her studies at Women’s College of North Carolina, at Greensboro, N. C.Archie Tucker, his wife Lucille, and daughters Patricia and Neal, from Jacksonville, spent last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Tucker.Mr. and Mrs. John A. Montgomery of Lake Jem spent the summer in Buffalo, New York and were expected home after the Labor Day week-end.Johnny Berteau, son of Mrs. Joseph Russo, and John Heist, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Heist, will leave for the Asheville School for Boys, the first week of September. They will be accompanied by their mothers.The first meeting for the season, of the Lake and Hills Garden Club, will be held Sept. 12 in the garden of Mrs. S. S. Sadler. A picnic luncheon will be served. Mrs. Land, will conduct the meeting.The William Blands of Lake Jem are expected back from their hunting trip to Africa around the middle of this month.Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Heist and their three children, John, Gay and Bobby, of Lake Jem, were due to arrive in New York City aboard the S. S. America this morning. They will spend two days in New York City and be back home in Mount Dora Sept. 10. They sailed from New York on June 10th. and have traveled through England, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France.There was a family reunion of the H. B. Chwall family at the home of Mrs. W. H. Havens in Tangerine on Sunday, Sept. 4. ItMrs. J. A. Arrowsmith and daughter, Bonnie, left for Europe last Saturday, and sailed from Quebec, Canada, on Labor Day. They will spend two months a-broad visiting 11 countries and will also visit relatives in England. We have asked them to share their trip with us by keeping us posted as they travel through these countries.Charles Bradford III leaves today for the University of Florida, Gainesville where he is a Sophomore majoring in Business Administration.Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jackson left last week for* Pennsylvania to visit with relatives.Glenn Woodworth of Heim Road is leaving September 10 for the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina where he is a freshman majoring in Political Science.Ann Travers of Class of ‘55 has been awarded a state scholarship on competitive exams. She will use the scholarship at Stetson University this fall.Claude Fralick of Fralick’s Restaurant, has just returned from a three weeks vacation with his family. While fishing for the big ones, Claude fractured a bone in his left foot and was really sore to see a big one get away. He’s back on the job now and the foot is healing nicely. Claude says Can’t ketch a thing with Bradford’s worms.”Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Finlay-son are closing shop Saturday night, probably for two weeks vacation, but possible until the end of the month.The James C. Jacksons and Ted Odoms spent the Labor Day weekend at Daytona Beach.Diane Hewey of San Diego, Calif, who has been visiting the Harry J. Hopcrafts this summer has returned to San Diego where she is a high school senior.Mrs. William A. Stokley’s mother has been visiting her from Atlanta, Ga.Edward Fortner and wife, Gladys, and their daughters, Ann and Mary Jane, have returned to their Miami home after a visit with Edward’s father, Mr. J. E. Fortner.Mrs. Kittinger and daughter, Kathy, who had been staying at the Mount Dora Hotel, left Thursday by air for their home at Park Ridge, 111. Carney Kittinger, and his wife, Cathy, arrived Friday last for a short visit with his father.Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Jones, daughters Patricia and Linda, son Jerry, of Johnson City, Tenn. have returned to their home following a visit with Mrs. Ernest Johnson, Homestead Apartments, who is Mr. Jones' aunt.Rev. and Mrs. Kermit Wheeler and sons David, Charles and Ken, have returned to their Durham, N.C. home. The Wheelers were guests of Mrs. Ernest Johnson, Mrs. Wheeler’s sister, and Mrs. Mary Crosswhite. Rev. Wheeler is pastor of the Calvary Methodist Church at Durham.
