.lt;£-SOLEMN REQUEIM MASS HELD FOR SGT, JAMES BELGERSolemn Requiem Mass was offered in St, Michael’s church at Holbrook on Monday morning for Sgt. James E. Belger who died in. France Aug. 6th, The Kev. John J. Manning Officiated at the Memorial Mass which was attended by a large congregation.Sgt, Belger was the son of Mr. and Mrs, James Belger of Iowa City who were formerly residents of the parish for a number of years. Sgt. Belger occupied a place in the hearts of his old home community that is now overflowing with deepest greif over his untimely passing. He was a young man of most admirable Christian character and was held in the highest esteem by a legion of friends.Belger came from a most excellent family who are left to mour the loss of a son who gave his life for his country. -He was a gallant soldier and did his part in a heroic manner.Eleven months before Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army in January, 1941, received his training at Ft, Banning, Ga, He went overseas in December 1942 with the 2nd armored division. He served in the North African and Sicily campaigns as well as the -D-Day invasion of France, Sgt. Belger was serving with the armored division of the 3rd army under command of Lieut. Gen. Patton,He was born February 28, 1913, graduated from the Purnell school with the class of 1932. He leaves to mourn besides his parents, three brothers, Cpl. John P. Belger in France; Clarence of Burlington and Charles, at the home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Wilkinson of Iowa City and Kathryn of Cedar Rapids. One brother, Elmer, preceded him in death, The community extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family in their loss of a kind and and loving son and brother,
