Howard Gilbert Confesses to Oakman Robbery; Pal Is Sought. Ale, Sept. 6—m— Gilbert, 22, arrested at Frankiin's’ ferry, eight miles from Here, this afternoon confessed, of ficers said, that he and a compan dion robbed the Bank of Oakman of ‘33,700’ at 9:30 a.m. today. ‘Chief of Police J. G. Stewart, of Parrish, Ala. who made the arrest, said Gilbert's companion escaped across the river. Gilbert told officers that he thre $700 into the river and that the companion had the re mainder of the loot in his possession. Gilbert was taken to the Walker county jail at Jasper pending action of the grand jury now in session. Authorities did not reveal the name of the other man. The two men entered the bank shortly after it opened for business and held C. C. Hudson, cashier, and Miss Willie Peal Day, bookkeeper, at the point of a pistol while they escaped with the money. Gilbert told officers he and his companion recently returned to Ala bama from Shamrock, Texas.
