Governor Renames “Kodiak Islander”; Kodiak Not PleasedThe “Kodiak Islander” ferryboat has been renamed by Gov, Egan according to Pete Deveau who said the governor had phoned him and advised he had decided to call the vessel “Tustomena.”The Mirror made a spot check throughout town to ask about two dozen people what they thought about the new name the governor wishes. Not one thought the name was appropriate or satisfactory. Comments ranged from: “Tustomena?” Sounds like a South Afri- i can name!” to the more succinct “It stinks!’ and’ “Phoee!” Nobody approved the name and most agreed that “Kodiak Islander” was the most appropriate and desirable.Several people have said they intend to circulate petitions asking that the governor reconsider end retain the name by which the ferryboat is already popularly known by: “Kodiak Islander.”
