News Notes From Piercy Bu Iness Skiffington PIERCY, Sept. 5—Why do peo ple have to set the woods afire to add to our discomfort when it is aready too hot for comfort? There seem to be fires to the north, west and south of us and it is terribly smoky. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Perminter of Casper stopped Sunday to call on Miss Edith Medcalf. They are on their way to Eureka to visit relatives. We are happy to report that Sonny Schumacher is recovering nicely from the injury he suffered in a battle in Korea. I t is reported he received a wound in his should er which is healing so well he expects to return to the front in the near future, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Olesen and Mr and Mrs. William O. Casteel went to San Francisco last Thurs day to keep appointments with Mrs. Olesen’s doctor and the men had business engagements that oc cupied much of their time. How ever, they had time to attend the Ice Follies one evening. They re turned Sunday, tired but happy. Mr. and Mrs. backgreund and billy, and Mrs. Harold Anderson and children went to the valley to attend the fair at Sacramento. They report a very fine time and a grand fair. Sammy McCush went to San Francisco Friday to attend a folk dance festival there on Sunday. Mrs. Boyd Simpson and daughter Sandra and Mrs. E. B. Knox ac companied him on the trip. The ladies went to see their dentists and do some shopping for their children as school starts for the Piercy school September 5. Pot Luck Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Finch en joyed a pot luck dinner with the following friends and relatives at their home on September 3: Mrs. Alta Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Luiz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lesley French and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schumacher and family. Other guests at the Harvey Finch home recently were Mr. and Mrs. Grady Musie and son from Gar berville. Mr. and Mrs. Ringheimmer left for Oregon Friday afternoon to get some of their belongings and get school clothes for their chil dren so they will be ready for school September 5. They returned Monday. Mrs. Ralph Owen and daughter Mrs. Jerry Dvorak and son went to Long Beach last week where Mrs. Owen will consult a occulist before centering a hospital for treatments. Mrs. B. Mark took her grandson Peer Jhent to Oakland last Friday where she put him aboard an air plane for his return to Washing ton, D. C., and school, Mrs. Mark returned Saturday and found that her son Don and family of Ukiah had arrived while she was away. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hopper of Berich and visited Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Martin Sunday, Mrs. Martin Santa Rosa to get her daughter so took an early bus Monday for she will be here for the opening of school, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Giil and Larry and Robert of Burlingame came up Friday night for a week end visit with Mrs. Skiffington and other relatives at Piercy. Returns To College Leroy Hull arrived Saturday for an a visit with his cousins and his aunt, Edith Medcalf, and uncle, Lee Medecalf. His mother, Mrs. Lurenia Hull, and sister, Miss Lois Hull, wil return with him to Mad ison. Lois has been working in the store at Piercy this summer and enters junior college in Sacra mento on September 1]. This will be her second year in college. Le roy Hull will enter his last semes ter at Davis. Thursday afternoon Mrs. Grace Harlow and son Ellis of Fort Bragg, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ander son of Mendocino, and Mrs. Dollie Hody ahead of Fort Bragg called on old friends, Mrs. C. C. Kirk, Mrs. George Kirk and Mrs. Skitlington. A very successful Stanley party was held at the Medcalf ranch With Miss Edith Medcalf as host ess. About 21 guests and several children attended and enjoyed the evening. The gentlemen came and entered into the fun with the ladies, Mr. and Mrs. Sam McCush are attending the fair at Sacramento and the Ice Follies in San Fran cisco this week. Loomis-Bullis Nuptials With only their immediate fam ilies and a few close friends pres ent, Shirley Elaine Loomis and Warren C. Bullis were married Saturday evening, September 2, Redwoods at Garberville, Rev. in the Little White Church of the Rowland W. Tapp officiated at the 8:30 p.m. ceremony before an altar banked with chrysanthemums. The bride was given in mar riage by her father, Mr. Winfield Loomis, and was attractively at tired in an afternoon ensemble with a corsage of gardenias and roses. She carried a white prayer book. The bride was attended by Miss Janet Loomis as bridesmaid. The bridegroom was attended by Jena Masters, Jr., of Redway. Mary Ann Stewart at the organ played the wedding march. Imediately following the cere mony a reception was held at the home of the groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Q. Bullis of Piercy. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winfield Loomis of Briceland. The happy couple left on the midnight bus for a honeymoon in Portland. Following their return, the newlywelds hope to attend Humboldt state college.
