LOWELL NEWS LoweLl, Sept. 5.—Mr. and Mrs Frank Walz and children, Miss Myrtle DeLang and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hol gar and daughter Neva, enjoyed a picnic supper at Bridgeport Sunday evening. Mrs. Robert DeLang, Miss Myrtle DeLang, Miss Florence Denney and Edna Walz returned home Thursday from Des Moines. Mr .and Mrs. A. J. Denney attended the Old Settlers picnic Saturday at Salem. Mrs. Orpha Harvey is visiting friends in Burlington, Mr and Mrs. John Hammer of near Des Moines are visiting friends in Low ell. Mrs. Allie Kutscher has returned home from Ft. Madison hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Finke were visitors at the Loren Dickey home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. O. Geebe of Burling ton were visitors at the T. O. Canaday home Thursday evening and Friday. School opened Monday, Miss Mae Werr being teacher, Mr. Robert DeLang and Miss Myr tle DeLang were county seat callers Saturday. B. F. Hand, J. 8. Stehenson and Mrs. Sutherland atended Old Settlers picnic at Salem Saturday. There is an abundance of peaches, but fruit jars seem scarce. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Dickey, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Miller, ah. Wm. Jones and Miss Cecil Cooper attended Old Set tler’s at Salem Saturday. A good rain is needed in this local ity. Miss Mildred McFarland left Mon day for Fort Madison where she will attend Mr. White’s Business College Mr. T. N. Murray was a visitor at his daughter's, Mrs. Canaday, of Low ell Friday. Mr. and Mrs. DeLashmutt and Mr and Mrs. Myers of West Point were calling on relatives in Lowell Wed nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Graham of Wap ello were visitors at the Frank Edgar home Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Edman Dillavou spent Sunday at the L. C. Dillavou home. Mr. and Mrs. Louis DeLang and children spent Sunday at the Chas Thornburg home, Mr. A. J. Walz was a business call er in Lowell Monday Mr. and Mrs. Leland Lite of New London spent the weekend with L. ATTENDED Day Was Perfect and Fine Crowd There to Participate In The Pleas ures, Good Program Rendered And Visitors Treated Right Salem, Sept. 2nd.—Saturday the an nual Old Settlers Reunion was held here, and will long be remembered by those who attended. Our citizens and members of the Commercial Club put forth every effort, to insure the en joyment and comfort of every guest. Many of our former resident’s return each year for the event, making it a special homecoming. A special program was arranged, plenty of excellent music furnished by the Orchard City Band throughout the day, and in the evening from seven until eight thirty, they gave a special concert in the park. Hon. J. R. Files, Democratic candi date for Governor of Iowa, was the speaker of the day, delivering a splen did address. Rev. Levi Gregory of Whittier, California, formerly a resi dent here also gave a splendid talk. O. A. Garretson, A. A. Banta and oth ers delivered greetings of welcome to the Old Home Town. The members of the Congregational Aid Society served lunch and ice cream in the park. And the M. E. church Guild served dinner in their dining room in the M. E. Church basement. A number of picnic and family reunion dinners were held in the park and on the beautiful lawns. Miss Mary Beery was chairman of the registration committee. One hun dred and fifty pioneer and old settler names were registered. The following is the registration list, the first date when born and the second when com ing to Iowa.
