M. C. Duncan.Marcus Cullen Duncan was born near Pine, of this parish,December, 18, 1871, He spent the early years of his life near tha place of his birl! , with very little advantages in ihe matter of training. In early manhood he became known as a man of great personal courage and although for tire past several years he had been a quiet, law-abiding citizen, be was known for his bravery and steadfastness throughout his life.He was married on Feb. 9, 1*97, to Rost-lla Thomas, whichunion was blessed with seven children, six girls and one boy.About Iff teen years ago he became,a member of the Baptist church and since that time, his life had borne evidence to the fact that he was a Christian in the real sense of the word.lie was a mau that loved his home and who provided for it by honest labor and protected it with the strong arm of righteous integrity.In his community iie stood fur what he thought was right, regardless of the consequences. He believed in clean society, in good schools, in progressive churches and to any of these causes he willingly lent a helping hand.For sometime he had been a member of the parish school board in which capacity he served with zeal and intelligence.On the evening of Thursday, the 22nd day of August, while attending to his gin at Hackley, his right arm became entangled in the machinery of the gin-head and was so lacerated that alter the arrival of the physician, it was found necessary that he be removed to the hospital in Bo-galusa. Ou his arrival there,the lacerated arm was amputated, but the great loss of blood and worry of the long trip from Hachley toBogalusa had so weakened him that he failed to revive from the effects of the anesthetic and shortly after midnight he passed out of this life. His body was buried near the home of his brother, John Duncan, on Saturday morning with Masonic ceremonies, followed by the funeral which was conducted by Rev. Wallace.Mr. Duncan was a staunch friend, an honest business man, a devoted husband, a loving husband, and a model citizen. He passed out of this world, mourned, not only by his family and relatives by a host of admiring and trusting friends.J.E. Dees.
