A mass will be cele brated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Fr. Juan Montoya, O.F.M., will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Bobby was born April 18, 1934 in Dexter. He passed away at the age of 70 on Sept. 3, 2004. Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Vicente and Sylvestra Barrera; sisters, Luz Montoya, Nancy Silva, Jesusi ta Sisneros and Lupe Nieto. Bobby’s other brother and sisters are, Lecha Garcia of Roswell, Cruz Barrera of Las Vegas, Nev., Juan “Johnny” Barrera and his wife, Rose, of Santa Fe, Tillie Madrid of Roswell, Margaret Sanchez and her husband, Paul, of Col orado Springs, Colo. Bobby is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Barrera. Together they had three sons and three daughters, Oscar Barrera and his wife, Yolanda, and their children, Oscar Bar rera Jr., Sandra and Andrea Barrera, Shirley Smith and her husband, Stanley, and their children, Ahmin and Idris Smith. Jerry Barrera and his children, Lubinka Romero, Juanita and Charlotte Barrera and Jerry Barrera Jr.; Steve Barrera; Becky Barrera and her children, Ray and Loretta Contreras, and Andrew Garcia; Frances Kennedy and her hus band, Ralph, and their chil dren, Richard and Ralph Kennedy; and son Robert Bar rera Zamora and his daughter, Veronica Zamora. His great-grandchildren include, Gabriella and Isabella Barrera, Bavoni and Aleeka Smith, Fernando, Marion, Mia, Carisma, Miguel, Javier, Anas tasia, Marybell Torres and J.J. Barrera Bobby served in the U.S. Army and was the manager of the Officers Club. He was most remembered for running the Tower Bar. Bobby was a good husband, father grandfather and friend. He was a strong, kind and loving man who was full of life. He was truly blessed with the gift to make others laugh and we were blessed to have him. Bobby was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church. May he rest with the Lord in peace now and forever. Rena Dee Cruz-Cummings A rosary will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in San Patricio, for Rena Dee Cruz- Cummings, 43, of Ruidoso Downs, who passed away Sept. 2, 2004, at Presbyterian Hos pital in Albuquerque. A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. immediately following the rosary at St. Jude’s Catholic Church. After the services Rena will be cremat ed. Rena was born Aug. 5, 1961 in Hall County, Texas, to Abdon Joe Cruz and Julia Montoya Salas. Both parents preceded her in death. On Jan. 16, 1986, Rena married Sidney E. Cummings in El Paso. He survives her at the family home. Other sur vivors include her sons, Robert James Cruz and El’ Rico Sid ney Cummings; daughters, Ebony Rena Cummings and Christina Rockshell Cruz; brothers, Roger Cruz and Maxi Ray Salas; and sister, Yolanda Cruz; as well as nine grand children. Rena was a home health nurse for Home Health Care in Ruidoso. She moved to Rui doso Downs a year an a half ago from Willis, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be dear ly missed by her family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bal lard Funeral Home and Cre matory. Frances Joannesse Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the First United Methodist Church for Frances Joann Assery, 69, of Roswell, who quietly passed away in her sleep to spend eternity at her side of her beloved Lord on Sept. 3, 2004. The Rev. Archie Echols will officiate. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Joann was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Rogers, to Sybil and Pike Van Winkle, the seventh of 14 children. She was pre ceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, Gerald and Albert Van Winkle and a sister, Joy McGaha. She married John Ussery Feb. 21, 1954. He survives her at the family home. Other survivors include her three sons, Mike and his wife, Stacey, of Austin, Texas, Brad of Albuquerque and Gerald of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was also very proud of her four grand sons, John Ussery of Bandera, Texas and her A, B, C's, Alex, Ben and Cal Ussery of Austin; her mother-in-law, Willie Faye McGrew of Roswell; Van Win kle Brothers, Wayne of Carls bad, Elvis of Portales, Fred of Ruidoso, Bill of Lubbock and Jim of Ruidoso; her sister, Wanda Hawkins of Bogalusa, La., Vera Arnold of Portales, Helen Hester of Albuquerque, Vondle McGee of Elida, and Janice Turner of Lovington. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews living throughout the country and many very close members of her women's prayer group, Billie Turner, Peggy Wilson, Jenny Lou Mayes, Marge Ken non, Nancy Smith; her long time business partner, Rosetta Holmes, and a host of other great friends and relatives. Joann attended school in Rogers and Portales. She and John lived in West Texas and Truth or Consequences before settling in Roswell in 1967. In Roswell, Joann worked as an office manager for Northwest Mutual Life Insurance for many years, prior to going into business as co-owner/operator of Fran's Fashions and later the Mulberry Bush, both in downtown Roswell. She retired from those ventures in 1988 to enjoy more leisure time with her family and friends. Joann has been actively involved in the First United Methodist Church in Roswell and the Alpha Phi Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Over her years, Joann spent a great deal of time in numerous community service activities and family care giving.
