MRS. MORRILL DEADWell Known Lady Dies at an Early Ho nr This Morning—Dived Here Many Years.Mrs. Cornelia Isabel Dean ‘ Morrill, wife of Richard Morrill, died at the family residence on Highland Place at one o’clock this afternoon. Deceased was widely known, and had been.a resident of our city for many years. She was born in* Worcester, Mass., Feb. 2*3, 182$. Her early life was spent in the states of New Yorw and Massachusetts. Sept. 21. 1853 she nmrrttd Richard Morrill at ConstablerviHe, N. Y. After five years’ residence in Dowell, Mass., Mr. anu Mrs. Morrill-came to. Dubuque, where for .more than forty years Mrs. Morrol! has been identified with the best interests.of the city. She was interested in philanthropic and educational movements, and in social and club life, and during the war of the rebellion she took a very active part in the work of the sanitary communion. It is difficult to do justice to such a character as that of Mrs. Morrill. As a friend she possessed exceptional qualities. She had rare attainments, a most cheerful temperament and a large hearted sympathy which endeared her to all. She had courage to meet whatever came to her. She was generous and hospitable,. always making her large circle of friends and acquaintances feel at ease in her home. She was loved and trusted by old and young alike. She was faithful and true to every obligation, a model wife and af* fcctionate mother and a staunch and true friend. Though she was in sympathy with work outside her family she felt that her first duty was to the home and she made, that bright and cheerful. For more than fifteen years she had been afflicted with deafness and on that account has been obliged to give up many things in which, she took pleasure, but her courage and ability made up for her loss of hearing. ' She became interested in genealogical matters and took a great pride in her ancestry, being a descendant of Walter Dean, one of the founders of the colony of Massachusetts. A few years she rendered important assistance' in the compilation of memoirs of the Dean amily in America, a work requiring careful research and much historical reading. Mrs. Morrill had real artistic ability. Her sketches of-coionia! homes and of prominent people of New Kng-land and other places have been much admired. She was a charter membsr of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The Chapter will long feel the impress of her inlluence and will sincerely mourn her loss. She bore her last illness with Christian fortitude. No word of complaint was heard from her lips*. Her death is a. severe blow to her husband and family. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mor-rill, viz: Winona, wife of J. D. Plaister, Wm. A., who died in 18S3. John Dean, whod ied in 1S72 and Harry Bonnet, now residing in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services will be held at the. Morrill residence, 127 Highland Place.
