It was a long run up a steep hill but the men worked valiantly, never thinking of danger. The fire was in the home of Phil Heller, a horseshoer at 9S7 White street, Dubuque, and was caused by the explosion of an oil,stove. When within sight, of the burning building young Thill slipped and before it. could be stopped. the ponderous machine, weighing 4,000 pounds, passed over his body. The excitement caused by the fire was overshadowed by the accident that befell the fireman, for he Is universally admired in East Dubuque. Tenderly the young man was carried to a near-by house where surgeons examined and dressed his Injuries. While no bones were broken he was injured internally and his condition is so critical as to lead surgeons to believe that lie can not recover. If lie 1 lives three days, say the doctors, hope ; may be entertained for his recovery. ' When his injuries were dressed the un- J fortunate young man was removed to * his home where, a few hours after- ‘ wards, he regained consciousness. 1-1 is 1 pain is most poignant, and to relieve it 1 ho was kept constantly under the In- ; fluence of anaesthetics.The Injured young man is 22 years of ago, a son of Christ Thill, a student in the law department of the Michigan university, and a brother of Dr. Henry Thill, a dentist practicing in this city. He is very popular botli in East J Dubuque and in this city and much re- f grot is expressed over the accident. 1 The lire completely destroyed Mr. * Holler’s homo, which was a two story 4 frame structure. Only a small portion 1 of the furniture was saved. Insurance to the amount of $SOO was carried. It will not cover the loss.
