By WILLIAM E. McBRIDE N J Staff Writer A fund-raising carnival, featuring live music and the Clovis High School cheerleaders, is scheduled Sun day, Sept. 6. The third annual Muscular Dystrophy Association car nival will be held between noon and 6 p.m. at the Kmart park ing lot. The cheerleaders will open the carnival at 12 noon with a special ceremony. Live enter tainment will be furnished by Triple XXX, a top-40 music band, and by Sabor Tropical, a Spanish music band. Both groups are from Clovis. “All proceeds will go to MDA,’’ said Mrs. Patsy Chavez, Clovis chairperson for MDA and the upcoming Jerry Lewis Telethon. The carnival will have food and game booths. A featured event will be a watermelon eating contest. Game booths will include a dime pitch, duck pond, wheel of fortune, ballon prizes, cake walk, train ride, dart throw and ‘“‘balloons for kids” Games for adults are the dunking booth, staffed by CHS cheerleaders; the cake walk and wrecked car smashing. ‘‘We wanted Kmart to get in volved after Mrs. Chavez talk ed to our employees about MDA,” said Inez Rodriguez, who is coordinating the event for Kmart. ‘‘As retailers, I think we need to really get in volved with these type of causes,’ said Mrs. Rodriguez, the apparel department manager. She said the employees recently raised over $130 from a bake sale, which was given to MDA. ‘We're hoping a lot of people will turn out for the carnival,”’ said Mrs. Chavez. ‘‘We want to remind people about the Jerry Lewis Telethon on KIBM-TV of Roswell, from 10 p.m. Sunday night till 5 p.m. Monday.” There is no admission to the carnival, according to Mrs. Chavez. Small donation will be accepted for each game. She said collection envelopes will also be available for young children at both the carnival and at McCaw Cablevision, downtown.
