WINFIELD — With 14 lettermen, including some swift backs, on hand the 1969 Winfield-Mt. Union foot ball team is looking forward to a good season and is being considered as one of the favorites for the Southeast Iowa title. The Wolves will open their season at Mornins Sun Friday night. Coach Jim Hafferty is beginning his first year as head coach here after having been an assistant at Davis County for three years. Among the lettermen are Steve Norder, 155, senior, and Duane Johnson, 160, junior, halfbacks who are top sprinters in track. Norder has run the 100 yard dash in :10.2. To go with them in the starting backfield is Fullback Mark Bitting, 165, senior vet. who has been a reg ular the last three years, and Monte ‘Thomson, 135, sophomore, quarter back. Bitting played guard his freshman year. Starting at the end spots will be Jim Carlson, 180, senior and Larry Haight, 160, junior; tackles, Fred Gibbs, 165, junior and Bob Dunn, 160, junior; guards, Randy Kone able, 155 junior and Harold Humph reys, 160, senior guard; center, Craig Remick, 150, junior. All are letter men. The other lettermen on the squad are Jeff Carlson, 165, sophomore, defensive halfback: Jeff Larson, 15 ° junior, defensive halfback: Bob Nel son, 160, junior, defensive tackle and Tom Marston, 170, senior, lineback er. Hafferty said, “We have good ov erall speed but lack size and depth. I think we'll do well.” Others out for football at Win. MU are Lance Chrisinger, Jac’k Marston, Bruce McAllister, Neil Cor nell, Dallas Davis, Jeff Hurt, Kin Klopfenstein, John Rasmus, Lee Ross, Tom Connop, Kevin Duns more, Lin Haight, Randy Fye, Lon nié Hohl, Ned Klopfenstein, Jerry linder, Kurt Palar, Ron Venghaus, Dan Weber, Roger Barber, Chris Buffington, Jeff Busbee, Bill Finke, Brad Logan, Wayne McAllister, Brooks Palar, and Lon Roger.
