(Continued from Page 1) treat to the command post and then continued to exchange fire with the enemy for 11 hours al though wounded. Hospitalman Second Class James M. Kennan received the Bronze Star. He was exchang ing fire with the enemy when called to the command post to treat the wounded. Although wounded himself, he treated wounded personnel and at the same time engaged in fire with the enemy. He is credited with saving at least one other Amer ican’s life and helped carry an other man, under enemy fire, to a safe location. His care for the wounded and fighting spirit “contributed to the safe evacu ation” from Dong Xuai. _ James Flaherty was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for saving the life of a boating companion on Feb. 28 after the small craft the two were in cap sized 900 yards off shore at Point Mugu. He swam to shore for help and then swam back to the boat to rescue his compan ion. Gordon Dibble received the Army Commendation for his ‘professional ability, determina tion, perseverance and ingenu ity’ as a member of a Seabee technical assistance team at tached to the Army Special Forc es in Viet Nam from January to July, 1963 Good Conduct Medals were awarded to Gerald W. Olson, his fourth award; to Milton C. West fall, his third award, and to George W. Cantor, his first award.
