The rifle canon donated through the efforts of Congressman C. B. Landis to the G. A. R. post of this city, arrived Monday morn ing from the Rock Island arsenal and was hauled to the south-west corner of the square, where it will later be mounted. The ordinance is a four inch bore, carries a six pound ball, weighs 920 pounds and was used ‘ayon the river fortifications at Rock Island, the location of one of the governments feaenals. The piece is one of the Government’s discarded guna,and comes with out guarantee, and will be monnt ed on a concrete base. It has taken about a year to get this canon and an effort will be ‘made to secure one for each of the remaining corners’ of ‘the ‘square.. Oe
