On the :23d of August 'while Mr. vSldger of Wapello county was hunting his horses on Cedar creek, he found a mao fa the creek with all his clothes oh except bis boot and socks. The man was insensible, and had two wounds on the back ol his head, and one 022 his hand. Mr. vYzdger procured assistance, took aim out of the creek, and the next it day took him to Batavia, the nearest station on the raOjoad. On the 25£h he W35 taken to Ottumwa, ana in the meantime panaailj recovered his senses. He says he got of the train at some station and was walking around when some one came up behind him and struck him on the head. About $40 in money was taken. It is supposed he was robbed si Batavia and carried and thrown into Cedar, some six miles from the Station, under the supposition that he was dead. From papers found in ids pocket his name seems to be Joseph Merkkm of Xew York. 150 Afeomev street.
