Leo Starks, Brackettville rancher, received a Certificate for Excellence in Grazing ‘Management at a recent directors meeting of the West ‘Las Moras Soil and Water Con servation District in Brackett ville. The certificate is one of 47 presented in Texas by the Ameri can Society of Range Manage ment, Texas Section, Joe J. Mc Entire, Area Conservationist with the Soil Conservation Service in Uvalde made the pre sentation in behalf of the Texas Section. McEntire is also a Director of the Texas Section. The objective of this project is to give credit to those who demonstrate excellent skill and knowledge in practicing sound grazing management on their range and associated forage crops. Starks operates the J. W. White Ranch 19 miles east of Brackettville. He has been on the ranch for 12 years and a cooperator with the West Nueces-Las Moras Soil and Water Conservation District for 12 years. He was selected as the Outstanding Conservation Ranch er of the SWCD for 1966. “Starks is to be commended and congratulated for carrying out excellent grazing manage ment and for gaining and having good knowledge of the principles concerning soil, water, plants and grazing animals,” a Soil Conser vation sentative said. hedge of prrinciples is a how and when to graze range forage crops.
