Thieves Hit Valley StoresAugust 31 was a bad day for clothing stores in Espanola as two of them were hit by thieves.Natalie’s Department Store had a pant suit valued at $46 reportedly stolen by two women around 3 p.m., Mrs. Virginia Vigil reported to city police.She said two ladies had gone into the store and taken the suit. At 4:30 p.m. they were stopped at Pojoaque by state police and brought to Espanola where they consented to be searched.Baltazar Archuleta of the city police searched them but couldn’t find anything and they were released.Earlier that day, at 12:30 p.m., five unknown suspects reportedly stole nine men’s suits, each valued at $80 from Anthony’s Department Store in the Big Rock Shopping Center.Manager Fred Cedillo told city police four men and one woman had gone into the store and occupied store attendants in the back, pretending they wanted to buy something, while another subject had stayed in front and walked out with the suits.Cedilo told city police the store didn’t have insurance to cover items of theft.
