Co. P. Howard, examiner for the Interstate Commerce commiss, who held the hearing at Abilene May 1 on the plea of the Abilene and Southern railway to abandon their line from Abilene to Anson and Hamlin, has reccommended “that division four find that the present and future public conven ience and necessity are not shown to permit the Abilene and Southern Railway Company to abandon a part of its line of railroad and opera tion, under trackage rights, over a part of the Abilene and Northern Railway. The application should be denied.” Exceptions to his recommenda tions must be filed with the com mission and copies served so as to reach all parties or their attorneys on or before September 18. At the May hearing several busi nessmen from Anson and Hamlin appeared as witnesses, as well as officials of the West Texas Cham ber of Commerce, to oppose the plea of the U. and S. Judge Omar Burleson of Anson was the attorney for Jones County opposing the plea. Others who rp ad the plea were Wm. McCraw, at torney general; Sam Lane, assist ant attorney general; Joe T. Stead ‘ham, attorney for the Brotherhood of Engineers, E. R. Tanner and T. N. Carswell, representing the West Texas Chamber of Commerce.
