Herrick, on Main Street; rang with the melody of merriment and the harmony of friendship oli an,occasion of rare, enjoyment, a real surprise party and genial fam* ily gathering. It, wjll bo,. reraera,-■bered that for Beveml months past Mr. Herrick has had living at his home his brother, A. T. Herrick, Esq., a prominent citizen of Ul-ricbsville, OJiio, ,und a hearty gentleman of sturdy' Democratic' convictions, After a'pleasant sojourn among his relatives and friends— to the latter class of whom he added many while ; in, .our- midst—our Ohio friend .intends returning to the dear old Buckeye homo in a few days. But before he turns his back on these moutains (his heart always remaining turned toward them)' hts sisters and brother and brothers-in-law were determined on giving him a substantial token of their affection, a farewell that should show him in what esteem, and love he, is held by those near to him.Consequently, last evening, the hospitable mansion of our worthy friend L. J. was thegathering-place. of about 40 • of ^ the beneficiary^ friends and relatives, including Ids brother, Hon'.j L. J. Herrick aud family, Ids sisters Mesdames Diana Moore, Lucy- Lake, and Mrs. H. 'Keyes and their husbands, also Bishop B. C. Critchlow, \V. G. Child, Wm. Middleton; M. Buch-roiller, L. A. Herrick, C. S. Browning, S. It. Johnson, of .Omaha, aud Isaac Clark, Esqs., most of them accompanied by their wives. With the sprinkling of youug ladies and rbsy children the whole assemblage was indeed a very pleasant one. They all enjoyed themselves in each other’s company, in Bocinl chat, mirth, and music, both before and after the sumptuous supper to which ample justice was done, the well-loaded board being besieged and duly captured three times in succession, the luscious viands melting like snow under a July sun:’The chief feature of the reunion, however, was tho presentation to the departing brother and friend of numerous and valuable gifts, to which honor the writer was appointed, whose remarks were responded to, in a most touched and touching manner by the recipient. jMr, L. J. Herrick also made a 'speech, in that captivating style of his, blending depth of true feeling with flashes of humor. After a few more expressions of thankful emotion by the surprised subject, and general handshakings and hearty “good-nights!” the happy gathering came to n close, all retiring to their abodes with the consciousness of haying assisted at one of the most agreeable social and family reunions that1 eyer strew roses of felicity on the thorny pathways of their lives.
