The butldmc of others is in contemplation.It might be supposed that such a quantity of ore would roudcr it almost valueless. Rut when we come to consider that there are now in active operation in St. Louis and vicinity eightcharcoal furnaces, with a capacity of 50, ono tons; seven stone and coke furnaces, produeineabout 83,000 tons of iron; two rolling-mills, with a capacity of 50,000 tons. There are more than 20 iron foundries in the city. These last employ a capital of *2,500.000, and work a force of 300men. Most of these roanuf actories have been built within the last live rears, and are being rapidly increased in number. A large portion of tlie crude Iron ro keep these furnaces at work must come in on this road.
