From (At Boston Daily Jdvtrtiser, cf August S3. SEA SERPENT*A gentleman who hat been iri Gloucester has given u» the following account of this animal. It wat •till teen in the harbor of Glou-cetter on Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon. On Tuesday tlie weather wat rough, and he did not make hit appearance. Prom what hat been observed cf hit habitt, it aren a that he ap-proachet the Shore, and shew* himself above (he aurface, when the water ia amooth and the weather warm.On Sunday and Monday very distinct view* were had of him by various person*. (aentleinen who have been at Gloucester, and attended to the account* of those who have teen him at different situations, think there can he no doubt that the animal it a Serpent, in kind * that he ia at least eighty, and more probably an hundred feet long, and nearly of the size of a fh ur hari el, «t t lie largest place. As to the bunches, or protuberances, which have been mentioned, these are thought to be nothing i « »o than the appeal antes occasioned by hie mainter of motion. He does' not wind laterally along, at serpents commonly do, but his motion is undu)atoryt.,or consisting in alternate rising and degression somewhat like the met ion of * i.-stentii-lar. Mr Johoson, a young man. vB went in a boat to visit a vessel in harbor, on Sunday, in the dusk of the evening, came very near to him, before he discovered him, so that be might have reached him with hit oar. He was quite still, and appeared to be reposing. lie waa tounii and smooth, and had nothing like bunches lilt head, though in its front it is circular, ia not flat like a common serpent’s, but ti e top is elevated, prominent, and round ; and owing to this latter circumstance a side view of his head a little resembles that of a dog’s. Cspt. Beach, ,who appears to have eaarnined him very often, and sometimes in favorable situations, says his head is the size of a com moo bucket. He has seen him with his mouth open, his under jaw and teeili like a shark’s, his head round..with apparently very thick fira‘es,end its whole appearance very terrific. Credible persons aver, that they have seen h»m swimming into the harbor, with great speed, holding his head eight fset above the water. More often lie moves along, with his head under water, shewing the line of his back, or with his head immediately shove i he surface, lie appear# to be round with large scaly#, which, when he contracts hie folds, give a rigid appearance to hi* back, hut when he extends himself the scales inclose, and do not prevent his appearing smooth. His general colour is dark brown ; his hr id dark brown, intermixed with white, lie often turns very quick, bringing hi* head near his tail, and putting himself into the form of * staple. Capt. John Bench, Jr. has completed * drawing of him, which is to be erigiaved, Ashe has seen him several times, it is probable Ida likeness will be tolerably just — 1 he People of (• tom ester, however, intend to Ins able to give a better account of him, if he should stay longer in their harbor. Bbark Hooks, varjoutly baited and attached to buoy#, have been set aflostinthe harbor, nnd several boats, weil manned and ormed, were destined to attack Idm ycstetciay, if U aUw'dhjmiclf.I9 Sa ft s 1-d n a »* i-1»rII ied t, ie at ;d2 le x »n •itlieLisSlisr-it-mP-vej1-cd*cayofhemet,h-r’ttlitl-wsler.wi-ill!IBS,iellata.theageandrri-Isfttheght-
