The Waltons for instance. Buffy's growth, her ultimate confrontation with today's teen-age world, would have been real drama. For it would have involved her emergence from an ivory tower of wealth and position and protection in a swank Mew York apartment into a violently changing world. Ithink Buffy would not have met it with sleeping pills.The little girl in ‘'Family Affair” met the exigencies of her small world with the complete naivete of fearless love. She never anticipated rejection. She met hostility with friendliness because she never seemed to recognize hostility. And the script w riler was justified in depicting the walls of Jericho as tumbling before this gentle and joyous pugnacity. They usually do.But wliat v0,1 id have happened to Buffy at 15 or 16, faced with teenage rebellion, dope traffic and sexual experimentation. What would she have done about that wall of Jericho' That would have been a challenge for her script writers. And most current script writers are not eager for challenge. My guess is that Mary’s perception as an actress might have led them where they fear to go.Or would it? We shall never know. But certainly sleeping pills are tragically out of character with the Buffy portrayed by Mary Anissa Jones,
