All the balls are floaters, but it can be intimidating hitting deliberately into the water.Designed by noted Colorado golf architect Dick Phelps in 1969, this 6,928-yard par 72 course is located about 35 miles north andwest of Colorado Springs in Larkspur. The property was formerly a large dairy farm and the land is still owned by the original family, leased back to the club. The course is very tough, difficult enough to be the site of the 1993 Colorado Senior Open. As always, if you hit the ball straight, you can score.Several holes go striaght down a fairway cut right into astandof25-foot-pines. The fairways on these holes are extremely narrow, not more than 25 yards wide at most points.Layout illustration shows red rock formations adjacent to and right on the course, coming into play on several holes.Greens are small, fast and undulating and well-protected by sand and grass bunkers. There is water on several holes, but it needn’t come into play for the average golfer.Perry Park is a private club with reasonable membership fees for the caliber course it is. A full membership is $5,000 with monthly dues of $150 plus a $35 food and beverage allowance.Aerial view of Perry Park Country Club shows “driving range”, really a lake in which players hit floating balls into a liquid fairway.
