amily ReunionTHIS ONE BEGAN IN 1886The annual Massey Family reunion was held in July at Hex Community Center near Gastonia, thus perpetuating a tradition that began in North Georgia in 1886.Children of Lon C. and Ophelia Massey (both now deceased) have the reunion each summer in remembrance of their parents and their other forbears. Attendance this year was 100.At the 1973 gathering in Gastonia, an offering was made to the American Cancer Society. This year, an offering of $55was appropriated to help care for Silver Shoals Baptist Church cemetary in Banks County, Ga. This is where Mr. and Mrs. Lon Massey are buried.Mrs. Ophelia Massey retired with 18 years service at Firestone’s Gastonia plant. Daughters Lois (Mrs. Raymond) Whitfield, is employed in TC Weaving; and Bertha (Mrs. Ernest) Jolly is in Chafer Weaving. A brother, B. F.
