SIRENThe first store opened in the Siren vicinity was a trading post run by a Frenchman named Alexis LePrairie on the shore of Clam Lake. Started about 1850, it only lasted a few vears on account of trouble between the owner and the Indians.No further trading seems to have been done in the area until after the settlers began to come in and take homesteads in the eight-ies. Then a store and creamery were established on the shore ofT f* Th^f* WPrf*moved into the present site about the time the railroad was extended from Frederic north to Duluth. One of the early buildings was a potato warehouse, as that was one of the main crops raised by the early settlers The first cars to be brought into Siren on the railroad were taken there as soon as the rails were laid and before the ballast was put on the roadbed. Tbev were loaded with potatoes in the fall of 1911.Siren is located on one of the oldest roads in the Fishbowl It started about where Grantsburg is now located and ran east past Mudhen Lake and through Siren and Coomer. It is almost obliterated west of Siren, but county highway ‘TV follows the route ofthe old trail very closely.Located at the junction of highways 70 and 35, Siren is the hub 0r the Fichhnwl If has a small hut very up to date hospital and a dentist Siren is the terminal of a Greyhound bus line to the twin cities and the county airport is only two miles away. For the benefit of tourists and summerpeople it maintains a beautifulfree tourist park.
