The I light starts from the old fort, and is 'at first very small. It gradually increases in sixe, and goes down the railroad track u I suit three feet from I the ground. The night watchmen say that a hand can be distinguished about it. Sometimes the lightffoesbounding down the track, and again rises thirty feet in the air. Several trains, includ-1 ing the Atlantic express, have been 1 .stopped by the light, believing it to le a danger hignal. It appears about 10:80 P. M., just Wore the arrival of the fast mail.Fifty jiersoiis lay in ambush in the vicinity recently in ho|s*s of ferreting. out the matter, but the light did not' appear, but the night watchman and others vouch for the truth of its ap-' |M«raiioe. Usually Kail road men art* tilled with fear and superstition, and dread to approach the spot at night. Some say it is a forewarning of a | railroad horror to be enacted in the I vicinity.
