THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET, The Democratic nominating convention met at the Court House, in ths place, on Monday last, and on a necessary Consequence, candidates and politicians were thick and plenty. That many were disappointed where only a few could be chosen, was not unex pected, and we heard a number condemn the present system of conducting primary elec tions. When we predicted this state of things, when this system was adopted, we received neither complimenta nor thanks from many who have since felt the truth of our predictions and the force of our arguments. The convention was organized by calling John Foresworth to the chair, assisted by Harry Reader and Daniel Wagner, as Vice Presidents, and Geo. Baker, W. P. Withing ton and Jacob Yordy, as Secretaries. The retort judges from all the election dis tricts, except Mount Carmel, were present. There was some dfffculty in regard to the Sunbury district, Mr. Solomon Shindel and Edward Eisely both claiming seats. Edward twin, a stout six footer, took the responsi bility of constituting himself the judge, having pocketed the papers as soon as the polls were closed. ‘The convention, however, admitted Mr. Shindel. There was come little surprise manifested at the rapid increase of the Democracy in some of the districts to the forks. Milton, for instance, at the primary election of 1859, polled only 104 votes, and in October 108, and now 149, showing a gain of 10 per cent, in one pear, while the census, taken a few weeks since, shows a gain of only S0 per cent, in ten years, or 3 percent, in one year.— Chilisquaque, at the primary election of 1859, polled 79, and at the October election 100 Democratic votes, and now 153. And yet, according to the late census, the population of Chilisquagque township has decreased from 13d4 to 1342, being a loss of 2 in the last ten years. Delaware has also improved 42 votes on the October election. But this is a pro gressive age, and we like to see progress, when founded on a permanent basis. The votes having been counted, resulted as follows: For Congress, J. J. Reimenyny der, of Milton ; Senator, Wm. T. Forsythe, of Northumberland ; Assembly, Samuel Eat, of Shamokin; Sherif, David Waldron, of Milton; Prothonotary, Daniel Beckley, late of Trevorton; Commissioner, Isaac BD, Ba ker, of Littles Munhavoy; and Auditor, J. Hotta, of Torbut. The Democracy in the forks have the lion's share, and will have no reason to complain, while Sunbury is without aingle candidate, or Wa. A. Armstrong, of Williamsport has been nominated for Assembly in Lycon ing county, by the opposition. The Repub licans are wisely selecting their best men for office. ‘There is policy in this, to say nothing of the wisdom and propriety of each a course, Mr. Armstrong is a gentleman of superior abilities, such hia will add greatly to his strength. The grounds will be open for the re ception of tea and all articles intended for exhibition on Thursday morning, and depos turs are earnestly requested to make their entries with the Secretary before ‘Thursday morning. The Secretary's Books will posi tively be closed by 12 M.. on Thursday the 11th, and will not be opened after that time.
