Renrcational Norice.—The second anni versary of the Ohio State Agricultural Society will be held in Circleville, on the 17th of October next. Fifteen premiums, amounting to upwards of three hundred dollars, will be awarded for the best specimens of cattle. Maxine Lovero Vieronss.—The editor of the N. ¥., Evening Star, says that a venerable widower of Florida, has sent a live alligator and a rattle engke to the young Queen of the “fast an chored isle” —a very significant brace of cupids. Ixom Favon—Sing Sing prison, N. York, contains at this time 817 convicts, of whom 28 are females. The Ohio Penitentiary has 425 convicts, of whom one is a female, and she a woman of color. Tax Witeraforce Curony.—The Christian Observer states that the ee number of families in this colony does not exceed eighteen—that they are divided among themselves, and that their con dition is not so good as that of the blacks general ly, in Canada. . They have no school of any kind, notwithstanding the people of the United States have contributed about $30,000 for the “Wilber force High School.” A writer in the Cleveland Herald: ‘ confirms this statement. Israel Lewis who is at the head of the colony, is again in the United States, as ‘donations as the agent of the high’ school. ‘Stein Smoxens, Anor —A lite London 'pa per says that the elite of thate@ity, which means, we suppose, those fashionable loafers who smoke along the streets, have formally eschewed the sugar and taken to the pipe. What a demand there will be in this part of the world for corn-cobs. Surely, the faithful will use no other kind of pipes. A Fam Hir—The Illinois Temperance Her ald says, that the rum-sellers who are chagrified because the authorities : propose to cut off their principal sourced of living, remind one’ of the in habitants of the Orkney and Shetland Islands who were ‘greatly annoyed’ at the ‘erection of Light ‘Houses, because it cut‘off their dependence upon the wrecks of vessels—upon human calamity and misery.
