There’s more behind that filet mignon than meets your knife and fork! In fact, behind any meal served around Brightside Country there’s a person...an interesting person with a story to tell By Audrey Barrie Debbie Flinker was one of the first waitresses hired when Steak Ale opened almost two years ago in Danville. Now she is head waitress, supervising staff of 14. “It's a super place to work,”” she says.We get lots of reinforcement from management because Steak Ale feels that happy employes create a bet ter atmosphere. The vivacious 24-year-old blonde previously held the “usual high school jobs then worked as an executive secretary and office manager. I'd never return to that, she insists. It’s too intense and structured. * Debbie has been married for four years to Rudy Flinker, a communica tions representative for Western Union. The Flinkers have no children, but share their home with a cat named Charlie, “because my mother says he looks like Charlie Chaplin. ’ They have recently purchased a con dominium in San Ramon which is fin ished in the antiques they spend weekends hunting in the Mother Lode country, “Rudy is really talented at restoring antiques.] work the 4 to 12 shift so he spends evenings working on our pieces.”” Rudy is currently making a butcher block for the center of their new kitchen and stained glass doors for an antique hutch, they bought in Nevada City. Besides the antiques, they own a pair of 10 speed bicycles which they enjoy riding. ‘We're terribly athletic, ’ Debbie laughs. “‘We play handball and love any kind of skiing,”” She says she likes her job at Steak Ale “better than any I’ve ever had. We're a close-knit group and really care about each other.” In addition to sports, Debbie is a photographer. She works with a Nikkar mat 35m, specializing in black and white studies of old barns and portraits of Charlie, Debbie and Rudy plan to have children someday. “That's when I'd quit my job, she says firmly. “I'm not ready for children yet, but when we leave Utem, I want to make a full-time econitment.” DANVILLE HOTEL, 155 South Harts, Danville.
