Indicative of the current squeeze the citrusmen are feeling, there was considerable discussion from the floor during the meeting on controlling the volume marketed and cutting grove costs. When a member,Charles Haw thorne, suggested that supply should be regulated, Mount Dora Co-op president Vernon Conner commented that this would pena lize co-op growers because of the uncontrolled independents, Conner also suggested, “we'd be spinning our wheels,” and should look instead to Florida Citrus Mutual and the Florida Citrus Commission for leadership. Nevertheless, on a motion by grower Walter Pharr, the mem bership voted overwhelmingly to have their board of directors ap point a committee to work toward a “satisfactory” pooling bill (working with other cooperatives in the state)to present to Mutual and the Commission.
