A three-level parking garage, Amarillo’s first public parking building, will be built at 5th and Polk where demolition crews are now tearing down the old Nunn Building. The structure may later be enlarged to an eight story parking and office building with the base ment, second and third floors used for parking, the ground floor for shops and offices in the top five floors. Lindsey Nunn, owner of both the old and proposed building, said lack of demand for office space at this time will delay completion of the full eight stories, although the building will be constructed so that the additional floors may be added later. Contract has been awarded to Walter Wirtz to start construc tion of the building. Wirtz will put down footings sufficient to hold an eight story building over the entire 140 by 90-foot lot. The basement will be com pleted for parking purposes with a room large enough to contain heating and air conditioning equipment for an eight-story building. First and second floors will be finished so they can be a part of later develop ment if necessary with the rear 40 feet of the ground and sec ond floors containing a circular Announcement was made today by Lindsey Nunn that the first two floors of an eight-story parking and office building will be built at 5th and Polk where the present Nunn Building is now being torn down. The proposed building is shown here in its entirety with a white line separating that portion to be constructed first from the final plan. Parking will be in the basement and on the first two floors unless there is demand for shop space on the ground floor. Drawing by Robert Hucker, Architect ramp to carry traffic from the basement to the top. If demand for mercantile space is present at the time this portion of the building is finished the front 100 feet on Sth and 90 feet on Polk will be converted for that use, with ex ception of space set aside for two elevators and lobby in the northwest corner. Final plans call for five floors of offices, 90 feet facing Polk and 60 feet facing 5th, fully air conditioned with two elevators serving the office and parking levels. Entrance to the parking levels will be on Sth near the alley. Robert Hucker is architect for the building. JA AAS eee
