Mayfield is home today after a strenuous campaign thru out the county and this evening will address the people of Wbfcteffeh at the Bull Moose meeting which will be held in Skylea' hall.Mr. Mayfield la so well known at home that there Is not much that he can say for himself that is not already known. Ever since he has been in town he has been active in public affairs, always taking a leading part, and working unselfishly.Aa an engineer on the Great Northern he has made good and ever since he has been mayor of this city he has made enpecdaily good. One who haa kept la dose touch with the city work must admit (that Mr. Mayfield haa been the best mayor -this dty has ever had. Every department has had his own personal supervision, juet as 4f It belonged to him, and the public's money has been expended where it would dothan the present incumbent of the office, Harry F. Walters, the candidate cn the republican ticket. It is practically thru him and upon* hisrecommendation tihet Wbitefteh Isgoing to have the now ateci bridge across the river at the foot of Second street. He Js now acting as city engineer of this city, and is rendering bis services cheaper than any other person has ever done. It was upon his say .that the portion of the Northern Idaho Montana Power company to put a pipe line acroe3 the county bridge in KaUspell was turned down by the county commissioners. He does net believe that the taxpayers should build bridges for the benefit of the large corporations. As an all-around competent man Mr. Walters is best suited for the postilion. His work has been so satisfactory to the great majority of the republicans of the county that he received the nomination by acclamation.Mr. Walters made a record during the past two years in the matter of read maps and road surveysthat will never be equaled by any other man besides himself. This will be because of the fact that Mr. Walters is the only man in the county who has had the necessary training and experience in this important branch of the county’s work.Mr. Walters established his reputation beyond a shadow cf a doubtthe most good. The first thing he . . . ..did after getting acquainted with !j5® teW out the road betweenthe affairs of. the office was to put every department down cn a business system and establishing a ©e*t of permanent records. The creatdcn of the office of water commissioner alone saved the taxpayers here hundreds of dollars. The Improvement district system was inaugurate under his administration with the result that we now have cement side walks, sewera and macadamized streets.Mr. Mayfield is only asking the votere that they give him their vote next Tuesday aa he wants to represent them in the legislature ,an honor to which, he Is rightfully entitled and It would only partly repay for the energy he has expended in the behalf of the citizens of this dty.VOTE FOR McCOY. for State Auditor.terbe«r-ur-arsuteflen-induteabCSSre-toheforRT.Mc-ofoftioniemhasundere,todttMc-out[meohnWhile the voters are pursuing '.he state ticket next Tuesday and arc puzzling their brain who to vote fair for state auditor mark an “X” after the name of C. Two mere trains {running over this division will add considerable to White fish, as it will mean more train and engine crews.G. W. Fauver, of Livingston, was In the city this week looking after business interests.Mr. and Mirs. J. H. Powell, of Elyria, Neb., visited here the fore part of the week with Mr. and Mm. A. L.Columbia Falls and Belton with a maximum grade cf seven per cent, after many engineers hod give® It out as their opinions that the featcould net be accomplished. He also saved over $15,000 to the taxpayers of this county by changing the line c-n the east sihcre read, from Brtg-fork to Poison. For the first time in the history of the organ!ration of the county, there is new a complete set of road maps in Mr. Walter’s office. These maps weire compiled under his personal supervision. Realizing . the need of such a system of rOad maps, immediately upon taking over the office he started in to w'ork out his plan. It is one that is of the finest and is net excelled in any county of the state. This system is a permanent part cf the county records and win be in evidence long after his final retirement from the office of county surveyor. On account of Ms recognized ability in his line cf work the cdty council of this city has engaged Mr. Walters to make a compute survey cf this city and make a set of permanent maps for future useWalters has been recognized as an expert highway engineer, and a year ago was appointed by Governor Norris to represent the state of Montana at the International Good Roads congress held in Chicago, at which he did a big piece of advertising far the Flathead in his talk on the Flathead roads. Many expresoiens of appreciation of liis work are heard from the members of the three dominant parties In Flathead county. They all recognize Harry Walters as the best and most competent surveyor in the county to-day. If these expressions are to be reckoned with when the polls open on November 5th, he will be re-elected by an enormous majority.Flathead county taxpayers easily recognize efficiency when they go to the polls and for this reason alone, if no other, tit will net be stepping over the bounds of reason to say that Mr. Walters will be returned to the office he has handled so successfully the past tw’o years.ers.
