Trask held a re ception and dance at the Town hall Swasey evening There was a large Maher present considering the reaay might. They received many useful gifts and all joined in wishing them a happy marred life. READFIELD. George Stevene mail carrier from Winthrop through Readfield, is having no seation and with his wife and daughter Villa passed several days in Barton and vicinity, Sir. and Mrs. Hollis Jacobs of Mt. Vernon were in Readfield and Augusta on business Saturday. Considerable disappointment was felt by those farmers living in the vicinity of Hoyt Hill when it was found that the workmen setting the poles for the N.E. Telephone Ca were called to another section Saturday, as it was ex pected the wires would be in working order before winter but now it looks rather uncertain. The Christian Endeavor society of Manchester have discontinued their meetings at the church and will held them the first Sunday in each month at the homer of the members of the so ciety. The meeting Nov. 4th will be with Mrs. Hackett at 2 P. M., with Mrs. Virgil Seribner as leader. All are in vited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens and daughter of Winthrop were visitors at Mr and Mrs. Wiliam Hunt's Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Packard Dudley and Mrs. Mary Townsend were guests of Mr and Mrs. 8. © Brown Sunday. Mr and Mrs. A. Gay and A = gon Harry were at Mr. and Mrs. BE. M. Dudley's Sunday. Mr. ElyMm and family have moved to the farm they recently purchased of D. F Austin, Mrs. Alberta Hewett and Mr. Yeaton of Belgrade were in town Sunday. The harvest supper given by the la dies of the Monmouth society was well -attended last week. Rev. J. B. Lapham, 2. former Metho dist pastor here, is with us calting on some of his many friends. His home is now in Old Orchard. Mrs. Leighton spent last week in Mr. Vernon with her husband's parents. Mrs. C. Young is making her home with her sister, Mrs. Knight of this Huge Miss Prescott from Raymond, N. FL, in visiting her aunt In town, Mrs. 8. Uy Foss. Realfield Grange will have a supper and entertainment (Hallowe'en) at their hall Wednesday evening of this week. Apples are advancing in price; the crop is about one-half what it was last year in this vicinity. Mr. Reeds is building a shed in addi tion to his stable Will Bean is doing the work. SOUTH VASSALBORO. Mrs FE. B. Whitehouse passed the Sabbath at Riverside with her mother, Mrs. MR. Getehell. Charles Smart is quite ill with in flammatory rheumatism. Mrs. Charles Morse and son Harold of Togus passed Wednesday and Thurs day at their farm in this place. They were accompanied by Mrs. Everett Richartson and little daughter Ruth. Frank Farrington, Jr. of August? was a caller at F. B. Whitehouse’s Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Doe of China were guests at J. P. Twitchell’s sun day. Mrs. M. A. Milken returned to her home at C. M. Dickey's Sunday after passing a few weeks at Seaward with her niece, Mrs Frank Ballard. CHELSEA. Nearly all of the teachers of or schools attended the State Convention at Lewiston last week, and all report a very interesting and pleasant meet ing. In the absence of our pastor, Rev. Mr. Smith, only a social meeting was held after Sunday school last Sunday, H.C. Lawrence read an excellent sermon and Miss Ida Searles gave a very interesting talk on Jerusalem, using the large map to illustrate. The regular Wednesday night prayer meting will be held and services next Sunday as usual, 40 which all are cordially invited. . Arthur N. Douglass and P. Hayes attended the annual meeting of the South Kennebec Agricultural Society at Windsor last Saturday. Miss Bessie Getchell of Roxbury, Mass. is visiting her grandparents, Capt. and Mrs. W. 3. Gakman. Mr. and Mrs. P. Hayes attended the session of the Grand Division Sona of Temperance, at Portland last week. Mrs. Eliza Dorr went to Gardiner last Wednesday to be present at the 25th wedding anniversary of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Wing. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Light of Wash ington, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Thompson last week. . Mr. and Mrs. Charles Melaney and children of Whitefield spent Sunday with Mrs. Melaney’s sister Mrs. R. V. Morgan. Miss Stella Ricker is at home for a short vacation having had some trouble with her eyes. WEST GARDINER. SPEAR'S CORNER—Several out of town visitors attended the Upham Fairbanks wedding at the Fairbanks homestead on Wednesday evening. ‘The auction sale held Saturday at the West Gardiner Stock Farm was exceedingly well attended and prices rated high. The Ladies Aid connected with the Corner church will give an entertain ment ant supper at the church on ‘Thursday evening, November 1st. The entertainment will be by Gardiner talent,, the admission 19 cents. Supper 15 cents. An enjoyable even ing is promised, 2 bountiful sunper as sured and a large attendance desired. Robert G. Clark is on the sickest. Mrs. Thaddeus Littlefield is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Augustin fuitle- Held. NORTH VASSALBORO. Owing to the delay in receiving the steel for the walls and ceiling [of the M. FR. church here the Ministerial As sociation, which was to be holden here on May, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be trans ferred to the church at East Vussal boro on the same dates. A very inter esting program has been prepared and ample entertainment provided and all are cordially invited. For the same reason the date of the rededication has been changed to Nova. TA. Wing has finished picking the Abert Cookannies, Tie harvested 1000 barrels, 600 of them being Bald wins, ‘EL H Cook has 1500 barrels. The fee offered 8 $2.00 per barrel Rev. EL A. Calmitts was one of the Speakers at the meeting of the Broth erhood of St. Paul connected with the Augusta M. BE. church on Oct. 22. The Pearcher who was so badly injured in the woolen mail some time ago is gaining and it is expected that if no complications see im he will recover. The sight of one eye, how ever, has been destroyed, NORTH WAYNE. The remains of Mrs. Ellen Betcher were taken to Chicopep Falls, Mass., Saturday afternoon’ for interment. They were accompanied by her sons, B. E. and J. W. Belcher. Mrs. Carrie Ward returned to her home in Gardiner Sunday afternoon after a few days visit with relatives here. J. W. Belcher of Chicopee Falls, Mass. was called here the past week by the death of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Belcher. Mrs. E. L. Stevens and her sister, Miss Jennie Lane of Readfield went to North Jay Saturday for a few days’ visit with relatives there. The earthquake shock which was felt here about 4 o'clock A. M. seemed to be traveling southward. It caused the Umbers of buildings to crack. A.W. Abbott and family of Foryette passed Sunday with Mr. Abbott's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Abbott. The Abbott brothers are at work for E. J. Nelson in Readfield, reshingling his buildings. NORTH SIDNEY. Asylum Lodge, F. and A. M., install ed officers Saturday evening. In vited guests were present and the usual good time enjoyed. G. ©. Robbins and A. M. Drummond of Augusta passed Sunday at their home making the trip up the river in their naphtha launch. Miss Eliza A. Gilman atended the teachers convention in Lewiston, Fre- Quy. My. and Mrs. Hary Warren of Fryb ourg visited Mr. and Mrs. Albert Chadbourne recently. Arthur Blaisdell is putting an addi tion on his barn. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Whitehouse and the latter's daughter, Miss Gene Mievr Jewett of Augusta, were guests at 5. A. Clark's last week. W. P Lyon went to Brunswick Fri day. Mrs. Abbie H. Burgess and Miss Alice M. Moore visited relatives in Lewiston last week. Even H. Bragg had a husking bee Wednesday evening. Mrs. Luther Hutchinson is very it. Mrss Carrie Sibley visited friends in Waesalboro last week. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Farnham tendered them a reception in Grange hall, Tuesday evening Oct. 23rd. A concert consist ing of instrumental music was given by Miss Amy Clark, Maessrs. Clyde Blake and Logan Clark with vocal selections by Miss Lena Clark and graphophone selections by James Fl. Trask, after which dancing was the feature of the evening. Re freshments of ice cream and cake were served, and the gentlemen were treated to cigars. At a late hour the company dispersed with many good wishes for the future happiness of the esteemed couple. They were the re cipients of many beautiful presents RIVERSIDE. Mrs. Gilman of Mt. Vernon is visit ing her daughter, Mrs. H. P. Hawes. T. W. Fogg of Lynn, Mass., is visit ing Mrs. Sarah Wentworth and fam ily. A little son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Howe last Saturday night. There has again been a change of station agents at Riverside. EL Ta Patten who had been here only since last spring, was sent to Cray to take charge of the station there, and George E. Marden came from Glenn, N. H., to take his place here. Mr. Patten was very much liked by every body and we were sorry to have him go away, but Mr. Marden is working into public favor already and will probably give just as good satisfaction. H. RL. Sturgis while in Boston re cently, bought a new buggy, and that, in connection with one of the best roadsters there is in Nennebec county, makes 2 nobby team. Ira BE. Ellis died Sunday afternoon, after about 2 week's sickness with pneumonia. He was one of our most respected citizens, upright in his deal ings, and true to every trust. He will be greatly missed in the community as well as his home He leaves a wife and seven children. Ina, the oldest, is the wife of Arthur Lapham of Gardi ner. Chester is assistant station agent at Dexter, and the younger ones, three girls and two boys, are at home. They all have the sympathy of their neigh bors and friends.
