WAs Near Czolgosz.• • -Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sargent and*Son have returned from Maine where♦they had beeri visiting Mr. Sargent’sfolks for several weeks. Three brothers• •of Mr. Sargent were also at home at the•* \ ^same time; this being. the first time m twenty years that.the brothers had all met together. During their absence Mr. and Mrs; Sargent attended the Exposition at Buffalo and were tlrere the day the president was shot, they being but about 20 feet from the assassin when he fired the fatal bullets. Mr. Sargent says there was very little excitement among the vast throng in the immediate vicinity. He says however that when the officers started away with the assassin that a large crowd followed and en-deaved to secure the prisoner and it was only by reckless driving that the officers succeeded in keeping the crowd from accomplishing its purpose.
