Bill SweeneyFuneral services for Bill Sweeney, age 76, of Creston, formerly of the rural Prescott area, who died at his home in Creston on Thursday, October 24, 2002 were held Monday, October 28,2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox with Father Dan Seipker officiating. Interment with military rites accorded by the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 250 were held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Memorials can be directed to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Arrangements were by Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.F.W. Bill Sweeney was bom on a farm near Clearfield on June 13, 1926 the son of Francis Bernard Sweeney and Ellen Marie Leahy Sweeney. He grew up attending school in Conway, graduating with the class of 1943. Bill served his country during World War 11 in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. On April 24,1947 he was united in marriage to Maijorie Alice Knodle in Des Moines, Iowa. Five children were bom to bless this loving union.After Bill's discharge from the United States Navy he worked for two years in Des Moines. In 1949, Bill and Maijorie moved to Stringtown area to begin farming. In 1960 they relocated northeast of Prescott. In 1999, after retiring from farming, the couple moved to Creston. Bill served on the Board of the Clarinda Production Credit Association for over fifteen years. He was on the Prescott School Board and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lenox.Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his five children, Alice Reed of Creston; Larry Sweeney and wife Phyllis of Des Moines; Kevin Sweeney and wife Debbie of Lenox; Shelley Pettit and husband Mike of Norwalk; Jon Sweeney of Prescott and fiancee Carol Johnson of Ankeny; two brothers, Hubert Sweeney and Steve Sweeney and wife Sandy, all of Lenox; six sisters, Florence Robinson of Lenox; Maureen Walton and husband Jack of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mary Evans and husband Dean of Dysart; Catherine Rainforth of Sharpsburg; Francis Myers and husband Merle of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Carol Steininger and husband Ron of San Leandro, California; a sister-in-law, Jean Sweeney of Lenox; two former daughters-in-law, Peggy and Debbie Sweeney; a former son-in-law, Alan Adkisson; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.■..... Bill was pree£ci|i in death by his parents;his wife Marjorie in 2000; a brother Gecjr^e; a sister, Margaret; three brothers-in-law, Gerald Rainforth, Doyle Robinson and Dean Knodle; a sister-in-law, Juanita Sweeney; and a former son-in-law, John Reed.
