COLUMBIA (AP)—Democratic guber natorial candidate Bryan Dorn saved many Supporters of former Democratic candidate Charles “Pug * Ravenel at the University of South Carolina Tuesday and defended his spot on the ballot. About 60 students met Dom. In response to a charge from one that back-rown politics was involved in the congressman's selection Dom said, “There were no back-room, smoke-filled politics involved.” He called Ravenel ‘a friend of mine,” and added, * It is for him and the things he stands for that we unite to win this race.t. he accused his Republican opponent, Jam es Edwards, of “trying to memorize Kave nel's reform speeches now but he doesn't have them down pat because he misquotes Havenel. Don’t be fooled.” The candidates called Edwards’ philosophy “one of retrogression and turning back the clock.” Asked how he felt about Ravenel’s statement that he would write Dorn's warmed on the ballot, the Democrat said, Til take Republican votes, Democratic votes, Independent votes and write-in votes” .
