CARLINVILLE — Danny Phillips, 23, of Cottage Hills was sentenced to 4-6 years at Menard Penitentiary Monday after his request for probation was denied in cir cuit court. Phillips and Richard Dodson of Alton have both pleaded guilty to the rape on Oct. 11 of last year of a 14-year-old Macoupin County girl. Dodson, who fled the area after he was given time by the court to get his affairs in order after he was sentenced to 46 years about eight months ago, is held by Harrisburg, Pa. authorities on a fugitive warrant from Macoupin County, the Telegraph learned. The charges against the two men stemmed from an incident near Medora on Oct. 11 of 1972 in which the two men stopped the girl as she rode her bicycle along a country road near Medora. She told authorities that she was forced into the automobile and driven around the countryside before she was raped in the car during the daylight hours. The car was parked in a field in a secluded area near the Jersey County line, initial reports of the incident stated. The girl was returned to the roadway where she was picked up by a passing motorist. Her father later filed the criminal charges against the two men. The incident began about 10 a.m. when the men accosted the girl and continued into early afternoon of Oct. 11.
