Charles H. Barna Charles H. Barna, 51, Pence, died Tuesday night at 8:15 at Grand View Hospital. He was born June 8, 1917 at Crystal Falls, attended schools there and was graduated from Forest Park High School, Crys tal Falls. Later he attended Green Bay Badger Business Col lege. In 1987 he entered Camp Bonifas, Civilian Conservation Corps, at Watersmeet, and af ter completing his service there he came to Ironwood, where his parents had moved. He was employed as a clerk at the Cur ry Hotel and entered mining in 1938 with the Republic Steel Co., working underground two years and later was on surface as a hoist operator until the com pany ceased operations here. When it was taken over by the North Range, he continued there as hoist operator until it closed in 1961. He was em ployed as maintenance superin tendent at Grand View at the time of his death. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Co lumbus, Ironwood Council, a former member of the St. Mi chael Holy Name Society, and a member of St. Anthony Cath olic Church, Pence. He served as treasurer of the Republic Steel Credit Union. On Sept. 28, 1940 he was mar ried to the former Bernice Stan cezak at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She died Dec. 6, 1966. He was married Aug. 21, 1967, to Kathleen Mary Yankee, who survives him together with seven children, Miss Joyce Bar na of Milwaukee, Henry Barna of Iron River, Mich., De 3 James, serving with the U. S. Navy at Chu Lai, Vietnam; Mark Joseph, Gerrold, Robert James and Annette at home; two grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Barna of Iron wood; two brothers, Lavalas, Ontonagon and Glenn of Zion, Tr., and three sisters, Mrs. William Lepisto of Stambaugh, Miss Lina Barna of Chicago and Mrs. Sam Signore of Chicago. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Am brose Catholic Church with the Rev. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Dun leavy officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. The Camppell-Zielinski Funer al Home will be open for visita tion beginning at 2 p.m. Friday and the rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday. 1Mrs. Ernest Sandell Mrs. Ernest Sandell, 71, of 214 W. Norrie St., died a sud dnly Tuesday afternoon at the home of a friend. Funeral services for Mrs. Sandell will be held at 2 Fri day afternoon at the First Pres byterian Church, the Rev. John Koch officiating, Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. The McKevitt - Kershner Fu neral Home will be open for visitation beginning at 4 Thurs day afternoon. The remains will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Friday, where they may be viewed up until the time of the service. Mrs. Sandell was the former Helen May McFarland and she was born June 27, 1897, at Den ver, Colo. She was a graduate of Park College, Parkville, Mo., where she obtained a bachelor of arts degree. She came to Ironwood in 1922 and taught in the local school system as an economics instructor and as an assistant in the art department She was married to Ernest San dell on Aug. 26, 1924, at Center Lake, Mich. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Order of East ern Star. Surviving is her husband and one son, Robert HE, of LaHabre, Calif. ; two grandchildren, and two brothers, Ross of Cam bridge, Mass. and James of Laguna Hills, Calif.
