Strong disapproval of racial integration was voiced in a reso lution passed today at the annual session of the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas, meeting in Municipal Auditorium. The action, voted by messen gers of the denomination from throughout Texas, opposes ‘‘so cial integration of the races as morally wrong, historically wrong and scripturally wrong.’ It called upon the church's constituency and the public in general to ‘exert every lawful means and influence possible to halt the spread of the Com munist principal of racial in fidelity in America as repre sented by the subversive-fringe NAACP organization.” The resolution, similar in con tent to others passed at previous annual meetings of the Mission ary Baptist Association, was signed by Dr. Albert Garner, dean of Texas Baptist Institute, Henderson; the Rev. George B. Crawford, moderator of the ses sion, of Denison, and the Rev. Vernon L. Barr of Dallas. The annual session opened at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Bruce Hibbitt of Denison as moderator. City Commissioner C. T. Davis, speaking on behalf of the city and Mayor Art Jordan, gave the address of welcome, and the re sponse was given by the Rev. Vernon Lierly of Hillsboro. New officers elected by the association included: the Rev. George B. Crawford, Denison, moderator; the Rev. R. E. Rodgers, Arp. Tex., assistant moderator: Dr. Albert Garner, Jacksonville, and the Rev. Leo Griffith, Henderson, recording secretaries. The Rev. J. B. Powers, of Longview, delivered the annual sermon at 11 a.m. His theme was “The New Testament Church — Her Message and Mission to the World.” A pre-session service was held Monday night, with the Rev. W. L. Barr of Dallas bringing the keynote message. The annual convention is being attended by some 500 messengers and visitors, representing about 300 Missionary Baptist churches in Texas.
