AN ENTHSTIC MEETING.The Goulds Appreciate Mr. Jack* man, and want Him kept in Office.At a meeting beld at the Gould* on the26 th of October, 1891, Ur. John Bren nock «u called to the chair, Mr. John T. Williams was appointed secretary, and the following resolutions were unanimously passed: Proposed by Aaron Mogridge, seconded by Emmanuel Chafe,Whereat this meeting has been informed of the Intention of the government to dispense with the services of Mr. John J. Jackman, who for the past six years has been superintendent of rosd* within this district and elsewhere;And whereat we,the residents of theGoolds, deem it oar duty to testify our appreciation of the conduct of Mr. Jackman and Ms management of affairs confided to his trust;Resolved,—That we have learned with extreme regret of the contemplated retirement of Mr. John Jackman from the position of ltoad Inspector, in the dlacharge of the duties of which he gave general satisfaction, and gained the hearty good will of the people of this district by the skill and knowledge he displayed and by bis courteous and gentlemanly demeanor.Proposed by Michael Hearn, seconded by lUchsrd Howielt.Whereas it Is the opinion of this meeting that the vainable services of Mr. Jackman should be retained by the government;Resolved,—That the representatives for St. John’s West and Ferry land, bo respectfully requested to use their influence with the government to have Mr. Jackman continued in his position.Proposed by Denis Everett, seconded by John Ryan.Resolved,—That copies of these resolutions be forwarded to the Honourable the Colonial Secretary, to the representatives for St. John’s West and Fairyland and the press.
