Who, I should like to know, is the dramatic critic of the Minotaur Gazette t He finds that the character of Mrs. Spencer Compton, is not one that suits Mrs. Kendal, but that “ Mrs. Bernard Beere, on the contrary, is perfectly fitted to the governess’s part, and she played her amusing alternation of tears and dignity with much charm.” Now asMrs. Bernard Beere was, on that particular night in question, playing the part of Mrs. Ralston in “Jim the Penman,” somewhere in the provinces, the said dramatic critic has either got very much “mixed” about the “ Hobby Horse,” or, as I more than suspect, was never nearer the theatre than Northumberland Street, Strand, where so many astoundinjr “ revelations ” have been concocted for the edification of a gaping public. Indeed, there is a strong family likeness between the “ Minotaur’s ” notice and the admirable critique of the piece which appeared in the Daily Telegraph of Monday, presumably from the penof Mr. Clement Scott.
