Cowboys Zap LazbuddieThe Happy Cowboys continued their march toward a Class 2-B championship Friday night by flying past the l^izbud-die Longhorns by a score of 41 -6.Halfback Chris Pearson, the teams leading ground gainer and scorer, turned in another typical performance, picking up four touchdowns on runs of 91, 14, 3, and 2 yards.According to coach Robert Criswell, quarterback Mark Ilargrave was outstanding in his operation of the option play which allowed him to cross the goal line on keepers of 21 yards and 1 yard.The quarterback also booted threeextra points and scampered for a two-point conversion.The 91-yard touchdown run by Pearson came in the third quarter after a Ixmghorn punt had left the* Cowboys deep in their own territory. Pearson took a Hargraves handoff at the 9-yard-line and raced through a player-littered field for the six points. Coach Criswell said the key to the long tally was a clearing block by tight end Lonnie Tackitt which took down two defenders.Greg Ijooney, the hard-running high-scoring halfback who usually shares scoring honors with Pearson was scoreless for the first time of the year. He did come through, however, as the teams leading defensive man and was credited with nine tackles and one assist. Tackle Jim Hand was given credit for eight tackles and one assist.The Cowboys bested l^azbud-die in first downs 2d to Id, yardsrushing 389 to 131 and total yards 447 to 194 but lost in the passing department 63 to 58.The lone score for the longhorns came on a pass from quarterback Ricky Seaton to Jerry Barber. The conversion try failed.“We just got the football and controlled it,” Criswell said. ‘The 91-yarder by Pearson was the only wide open score of thenight.”Criswell said his team came through with no injuries and again should be in top shape for next week’s battle with Matador at Matador.“They are always a sleeper and tough when they have to be,” Criswell said of Matado-. “We are playing for the district championship every week and takingone game at a time.”The Cowboys, should they take the District 2-B title, will be in line for a state championship. For the first time in history, Class B schools will be given the opportunity to vie for the state championship, Criswell said.An evening of events centered around the visit in Canyon of Farris C. Oden, district governor, is planned Monday night for Canyon Rotarians.Oden, chairman of the board of Western National life Insurance Co., will be in the city Monday
